The purchase of a home by State Rep. Anthony Deluca (D-Chicago Heights) in Indiana, seemingly to secure a school placement for his children, has raised questions.
Notably, Deluca's daughter is enrolled at Lake Central High School in St. John, Ind.
Approximately two years ago, Deluca acquired a residence located at 8780 Forest Glen Court in St. John, Ind.
Deluca later executed a quitclaim deed transferring ownership of the property to his wife, Sarah Deluca. Despite this transfer, reports indicate that Anthony Deluca continues to stay at the Indiana property, while also maintaining a presence in Illinois.
Both of Deluca’s homes, the one in Indiana and Deluca's property in Illinois, reportedly benefit from a homeowners' exemption, a tax break designed to support primary residences.
Questions have been raised about the acquisition of the Indiana property and its related residency status.
Records with Lake County, Ind. the assessor's office show the Deluca’s purchased the property in March of 2021 for $299,000 and that Deluca’s name was removed from the ownership record shortly thereafter.
The property’s currently assessed value is $337,200.
