Ashley Ramos, a candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, has spotlighted the perceived lack of transparency and deliberation in the legislative process within the U.S. Capitol. Drawing from a fervent speech by U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), Ramos expressed her alignment with concerns about the present state of legislative decision-making.

"Most people have no idea," stated Ramos, highlighting a perceived disconnect between public understanding and the actualities of legislative processes.

In his address on the House floor, Roy voiced his frustration about what he views as a flawed system. He contended that the conventional understanding of how a bill becomes law is often misleading to the public. According to Roy, a small group of individuals determines which legislation will be presented for voting, leaving little opportunity for amendments or open debate on the floor.

"We get a massive bill dropped on our desk, and we say, take it or leave it. Go offer an amendment. Rules, they say. Never taken. Never accepted. Always pre-chosen. Always pre-gamed out," Roy said in his address, emphasizing his belief in a lack of genuine deliberation and debate in the legislative process.

Roy continued to stress that very few individuals actually make decisions in Congress.

"Try to make a piece of legislation better and you can’t do it. We got two, four, six, eight, ten, 12 people, max, who decide everything that goes on in this chamber in all of their infinite wisdom. And then we come down and we look at the board and it’s party line vote, and then it’s walk out on the steps and go give a speech and go to the press and go on Twitter and go on Facebook and go talk about why you’re voting no or yes. That’s what we’re relegated to in the United States House of Free stuff," he noted.

Roy also discussed issues such as the growing deficit and routine extensions of government funding without addressing underlying problems. As Ramos enters into her congressional race, her focus on these matters suggests an intent to tackle structural challenges within the legislative system - an approach that resonates with voters who share similar worries about current proceedings at the U.S. Capitol.

"Does anybody know the difference between $29 trillion in debt or $30 trillion in debt?" Roy said.

"Nobody knows or cares in this chamber. Literally not a lick. We never talk about it. And then each side comes down on the floor and offers more spending for whatever their priority is. Defense, non-defense, mandatory spending, non mandatory spending. If the unbelievably terrible circumstance occurred at Friday night at midnight of this government daring to pause. Do the American people know that about 82% of it is on autopilot with mandatory spending?"

On her campaign website, Ramos emphasizes the importance of collaborative problem-solving and unity among constituents.

"We tackle issues together as a united community in the 2nd Congressional District of Illinois," she declared.

Addressing concerns such as neighborhood safety, job scarcity, high taxes, and threats to liberty, Ramos presents herself as a candidate committed to empowering citizens and reclaiming control over their futures.

"In 2024, it’s critical for citizens to regain control and resist those hindering their right to a higher quality of life," she added.

Ramos's focus on moving away from traditional politics aligns with her vision for a renewed, community-driven representation in the 2nd Congressional District.

"That’s why I’m running FOR THE PEOPLE OF IL2, (and distancing myself from the SAME OLD POLITICS that contributed to these problems!)" she affirmed.

Ramos currently resides in Bradley and has roots in Chicago Heights. As an e-commerce specialist and devoted mother, she brings a diverse skill set to her candidacy. According to her website, Ramos is also a licensed notary and holds certification in CPR.

The 2nd Congressional District encompasses the south suburbs of Chicago, eastern Will County, most of Kankakee County and Chicago’s far southeast side. The district is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.).
