POLICE ACTIVITY REPORT
• 743 calls for service
• Deputy Chief Jeff Crowley, Officer Joshua Casey, Officer Grady Connell, and Officer Benjamin Jordan Formal Swearing-In-Ceremony was held on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023.
• The Michael Zaglifa Memorial Garden was established, this garden is in honor of the departed Palos Heights Police Officers/Civilians that have honorably served and dedicated their lives to citizens of Palos Heights. On November 4th, 2023 a dedication ceremony was held at the Palos Heights Police Department in order to give family members and friends an opportunity to reflect on their loved ones.
• An investigation into a serious Halloween day crash revealed that the striking vehicle was traveling 96-mph prior to striking a utility pole. The driver was ejected and suffered critical injuries.
• An elderly pedestrian was struck and killed crossing Harlem Avenue. The pedestrian crossed in the middle of the block and not at the controlled crosswalk. No evidence of impairment by the driver of the striking vehicle. The investigation revealed the striking vehicle was traveling 39-mph at the time of the collision.
• A juvenile pedestrian was struck on Halloween night in Ishnala. The juvenile suffered minor injuries, Investigation revealed the juvenile ran into the roadway without checking for traffic. A Halloween costume helmet also contributed to the accident. The striking vehicle was traveling between 15-20 mph.
• 103- Pounds of unused medication was collected by the department during National
• Drug Take Back Day.
• Major Crimes Task Force investigated several homicides this month.
• $600.000.00 in U.S. currency, narcotics and a tow truck were seized by our Task Force Officers.
• Investigations continue of the rash of recent mail thefts.
• Special holiday traffic enforcement for impaired motorists/distracted driving have commenced. All enforcement overtime being funded by an IDOT grant that the department applied for.
• The department applied for and received certification for Federal Use of Force Certification. This will allow us to eligible to apply for future Federal grants.

CORRESPONDENCE/EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION
• A citizen from Palos Heights stopped by the Department to thank Officer John Zintak for finding her handicapped placard. She was very complimentary of his extreme efforts in contacting her.
• Sergeant Travis Pirtle, from Worth Police Department wrote a letter expressing his gratitude to Sergeant Droba, Officer Belseth, and Officer Vanderlaan for their assistance during a critical incident that occurred in their town during the early morning hours on October 29th, 2023.
