City of Palos Heights Public Safety Committee met Jan. 23.

2023-YEARLY PATROL SUMMARY

• 16,244-incidents investigated

• 217- full custodial arrests

• 41-driving while impaired arrests

• 1,409-investigative reports generated

• 2,771-traffic stops

• 3806.25-hours of training

• 437-reported accidents

• 58-personal injury accidents

• 379-property damage accidents

• 9- homicide investigations for the South Suburban Major Crime Task Force

2023 CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM CASES

• 156-mental health cases reported

• Most cases originated as citizen assists, followed by domestics and suicidal subjects

• 63%-were residents of Palos Heights

• 59%-were undiagnosed prior to intervention

• The most common diagnosed problem was Bi-Polar disorder, followed by substance abuse and anxiety

2023 FLOCK LPR CAMERA ACTIVITY

• Since April 10, 2023, we have had 57-documented uses of the cameras

• FLOCK activity included citations, arrests, stolen vehicles and identification of vehicles used in other crimes

• 7- Flock cameras are operational and we are waiting on Cook County Approval for the additional 2.

• Once fully operational we will have a total of 9-cameras

HOLIDAY IDOT TRAFFIC GRANT

• 80- vehicles were stopped for violations

• 75- citations were issued

• 37- citations for distracted driving

• I-driving while impaired arrest

OLD BUSINESS

• Proposal to install/test on a cost free trial basis, a Flock Condor LPR/surveillance camera at the City Municipal Lot. See attached

• We are expecting delivery of the new body cameras in the next week. We are also in consideration for an IRMA body camera reimbursement grant. One the equipment is delivered we will look for other funding sources to offset our costs.

NEW BUSINESS

• An ordinance to amend existing sections of the code ordinances. Language changes to comply with present judicial procedures. City Prosecutor Mike Marovich will be in attendance to address any concerns.See attached

• During the DACRA conversation some inconsistences were discovered and may require additional future changes in the code of ordinances.

• Request approval for the purchase of a 2024 Toyota Highlander to replace an aging Detective/TFO Vehicle. Included in the packet are three bids from local Toyota Dealerships. The lowest bidder was Oak Lawn Toyota.

• On February 5, 2024, Probationary Police Officer Cynthia Sepulveda will began her career with the department. Cynthia is coming to us from the Merrionette Park Police Department and she also speaks fluent Spanish. This will bring the department up to 28-full time sworn.

CORRESPONDENCE/EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION

• Many residents have dropped off baked goods to show their appreciation to the Palos Heights Police Department during this Holiday Season.

• Ricardo Mancha, Chief of Police of Bridgeview, expressed his gratitude to all the Officers that supported his call for help with additional manpower, regarding the protest Marchon December 12th, 2023.

• Officer Kevin Pamper, received a Peer Recognition Award, from Officer Joe Carlson, for his expertise in dealing with a residential family situation, who was very grateful for Kevin's attentiveness and concern with a family member that has been dealing with bipolar disorder.
