Christine Shanahan McGovern celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with southside constituents

After the Southside Irish Parade, Christine Shanahan McGovern, the sole Republican candidate for District 36, shared some of the day's highlights.

Shanahan McGovern posted a reel on social media that featured footage from the Southside Irish Parade. The caption accompanying the reel read: "Together we will WIN District 36. I am blessed with the amazing support for our campaign celebrating the Southside Irish Parade." The reel offered glimpses of both her campaign and scenes from the parade.

In a Facebook post dated March 18, where she shared this reel, Shanahan McGovern wrote: "Yesterday started off pretty cold. This did not stop the cheers of support. The people of the Southside have had enough with the 'Chicago style politics'. The day ended with new supporters and many warm smiles. Thank you to South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade for all your hard work in putting another successful parade in the books."

Her campaign website outlines various issues central to her platform. She commits to bolstering economy and jobs, enhancing safety and security in district communities, advocating for fiscal responsibility and common-sense budgeting, passing legislation supporting school choice with vouchers and providing technology for every student. Regarding immigration, she says on her campaign website: "We need to return to COMMON SENSE. We have an urgent need to take care of our OWN citizens FIRST! Americans FIRST!"

According to her campaign website biography section, Shanahan McGovern is a mother, business owner, and dedicated community resident who holds a bachelor of arts degree with an emphasis in economics and communication.

Ballotpedia notes that while Shanahan McGovern is running unopposed as a Republican in the primary election, there are two Democrats vying for District 36 - Sonia Anne Khalil and Rick Ryan. According to Ballotpedia, Shanahan McGovern will face off against the winner of this contest in the general election scheduled for Nov. 5, 2024.
