City of Calumet City Finance Council Committee of the Whole met July 8

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

CALL TO ORDER The Committee of the Whole meeting was called to order at 5:46 p.m. by Mayor Jones.

ROLL CALL 

PRESENT 7 ALDERMEN: Navarrete (5:32 p.m.), Wilson, Tillman, Williams, Gardner, Patton, Smith (6:45 p.m.) 

ABSENT: 0 ALDERMEN: NONE 

Also present were Mayor Jones, City Clerk Figgs, City Treasurer Tarka, Deputy Clerk I Jessica Coffee, 

Mayor Jones Mayor Jones informed the council of the upcoming Budget meeting dates which are as follows July 15th, 16th, 17th, 22nd and 23rd. 

PUBLIC COMMENT Tasha Halloway of the 2nd ward commented regarding the approval and cost of the Fireworks show; she would like to know how much the event cost and how it was paid for. 

City Council Agenda Mayor Jones commented regarding the July 11, 2024 Regular City Council Meeting agenda and requested the council send any changes or updates via email. 

Review 2024-2025 Annual Appropriation Ordinance The following review of the Annual Appropriation Ordinance was presented by City Treasurer Tarka, Alderman Gardner, and Finance Director Kasperek and discussed by the City Council. The following departments were presented:

A) Revenue

B) Legislative 

C) Executive 

D) City Clerk will be discussed at a later meeting. 

E) Finance 

F) Purchasing /Personnel Department 

G) Legal Department 

H) Insurance Department

Finance Director John Kasperek Finance Director Kasperek compared last year's tax income to this year's tax income and advised there will be a decrease. 

Alderman Patton Alderman Patton inquired about towing fees not being received. 

Mayor Jones Mayor Jones stated a collection letter will be sent out to collect the towing fees owed to the city. 

Alderman Williams Alderman Williams requested a Public Relations line item for all Aldermen in the amount of $3,000.00. 

Alderman Gardner Alderman Gardner requested a Postage line item increase of $2,500.00. 

Treasurer Tarka Treasurer Tarka added a Training Officer line item. 

Mayor Jones Mayor Jones commented regarding the city being able to collect it's on moving violations instead of those violations being sent to Markham Courthouse. 

Adjournment Alderman Gardner moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Wilson at 6:10 pm
