City of Calumet City Finance Council Committee of the Whole met July 24

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

CALL TO ORDER The Finance Committee of the Whole meeting was called to order at 6:09 p.m. by Mayor Jones.

PRESENT 7 ALDERMEN: Navarrete, Wilson (7:22 p.m.), Tillman, Williams, Gardner (6:15 p.m.), Patton (6:19 p.m.) Smith 

ABSENT: 0 ALDERMEN: None

Also present were Mayor Jones, City Clerk Figgs, City Treasurer Tarka, Deputy Clerk I Jessica Coffee, Water Commissioner Gerry Surufka, Director Sheryl Tillman, Commissioner Jerico Thomas, IT Kevin Martin. 

Finance Director John Kasperek Inspectional Services

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the Department of Inspectional Services in detail. 

Finance Director John Kasperek IT Department

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the IT Department. 

Alderman Navarrete

Alderman Navarrete requested the IT Department give an explanation of the $140,000.00 expenditure from last budget season. 

IT Department Budget

Kevin Martin and Megan Wilson reported on $140,000.00 that has been utilized over the past year. Kevin Martin discussed the City's system crashing and how much that incident affected the budget. Kevin Martin and Megan discussed actions that need to be taken to secure the City's network in the future. 

Finance Director John Kasperek Street& Alleys 

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the Street & Alley Department in great detail. John Kasperek reported on grants received for previous and upcoming projects for the Streets and Alleys department. 

Public Works Commissioner Jerico Thomas Streets & Alleys

Commissioner Jerico Thomas gave a report on the equipment that's been purchased this past year. Commissioner discussed current projects for Public Works. Commissioner Thomas informed the Council that there is a need for a Hi- Lyft with a bucket attached to it

Finance Director John Kasperek Water/Sewer Department

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the Water/Sewer Department. 

Water Department Commissioner Gerry Surufka

Commissioner Gerry Surufka reported on the needs of the Water Department and discussed upcoming projects. Commissioner Surufka reported on equipment needed in the water department to alleviate physical strain on the Water Department employees. Commissioner Surufka commented regarding painting the fire hydrants around the city. 

Alderman Patton Left the Chambers

Alderman Patton left the Finance Committee of the Whole meeting at at 7:50 p.m. 

Finance Director John Kasperek City Clerks Department

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the City Clerk's Department.

City Clerk Dr. Nyota T. Figgs

City Clerk  commented regarding the needs of the City Dr. Nyota T. Figgs Clerk's Department. Dr. Figgs requested an increase for her staff. Dr. Figgs requested the Public Relations line item be included in her and the Treasurers Budget. 

Finance Director John Kasperek City Collectors

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the City Collectors Department.

Finance Director John Kasperek Fire Pension Fund

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the Fire Pension Fund. 

Finance Director John Kasperek Police Pension Fund 

 Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the Police Pension Fund. 

Finance Director John Kasperek Special Service Area 

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the Special Service Area.
