City of Calumet City Council met July 26

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

CALL TO ORDER The Special meeting of the City Council was called to order at 6:10 p.m. by Mayor Jones. 

PRESENT 7 ALDERMEN: Navarrete, Wilson (6:55 p.m.), Tillman, Williams, Gardner, Patton, Smith 

ABSENT: 0 ALDERMEN: None

Also present were Mayor Jones, City Clerk Figgs, City Treasurer Tarka, Deputy Clerk I Jessica Coffee, City Administrator Deanne Jaffrey, Police Chief Kolosh. 

Alderman Patton Left the Chambers

Alderman Patton left the chambers during the Special meeting of the City Council at 6:11 p.m. 

Alderman Navarrete Remote Attendance

Alderman Navarrete announced he was unable to be present in the chambers at the Special meeting of the City Council on July 26, 2024 due to traveling out of town to a training for work. 

Approval For Remote Participation 

Alderman Smith moved, seconded by Alderman Gardner to allow Alderman Navarrete to participate in the July 26, 2024 Special Meeting of the City Council remotely.

YEAS: 5 ALDERMEN: Tillman, Williams. Gardner, Patton, Smith

NAYS: 0  ALDERMEN: None 

ABSENT: 1 ALDERMEN: Wilson

Finance Director John Kasperek 

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for the Special Corporate Budget. There was a brief discussion regarding acquiring property from the bond instead of utilizing the Economic Development budget. 

Alderman Williams Recycling Line-Item

Alderman Williams requested a $50,000.00 line Item for  Recycling. 

Alderwoman Wilson Entered the Meeting

Alderwoman Wilson entered the Special Meeting of the City Council at 6:55 p.m. 

Finance Director John Kasperek

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Annual Appropriation for Economic Development. The council decided to increase the amount being offered for the position of Economic Development Director to $135,000.00 a year. 

Recess The city council recessed at 6:48 p.m. 

Return to the Regular Order Of Business

The city council returned to the regular order of business at 7:04 p.m. 

Finance Director John Kasperek

Finance Director John Kasperek reviewed the 2024 -2025 Salary Ordinance. John Kasperek commented regarding position salary increases and decreases. 

Mayor Jones 

Mayor Jones announced there will be IMRF meetings called on the 1st and 5th of August. Mayor Jones announced there will be a Finance Committee of the Whole meeting held on July 29, 2024.
