Illinois State House District 36 candidate Christine Shanahan McGovern addressed issues of illegal immigration and human trafficking in a Facebook post dated September 12. "The left wants all of this DEI and open borders but turns their backs on this," she said.

"The reality of this mass illegal immigration with unaccompanied minors is slavery," said Shanahan McGovern, according to Facebook. "The left wants all of this DEI and open borders but turns their backs on this. I have attended many events in Indiana, Oklahoma and several in IL. to educate myself about this horrific and real life scenario that evil people believe children are a commodity. Actually sex trafficking is the most profitable criminal activity."

Shanahan McGovern’s statement continued, highlighting the severity of human trafficking compared to drug trafficking. "This shockingly supersedes drugs. The most gut-wrenching piece of this is that children can be exploited (raped, sodomized, and tortured) dozens of times a day for the pedophile clientele. Why are we as a country allowing unaccompanied minors without a continuous follow-up plan with these 'sponsors'? We live in an evil world now but we can change this path."

In her Facebook post, Shanahan McGovern shared a link to a report from The Daily Citizen about the rescue of 32 children in Ohio as part of "Operation Homecoming." According to The Daily Citizen, the joint law enforcement action in Akron and Summit Counties spent three weeks locating missing children aged 13-18 years. The report mentioned collaboration with local law enforcement, the U.S. Marshals Service, and Summit County Children’s Services to ensure resources were available for the recovered children, especially those missing for extended periods.

Shanahan McGovern also recounted a personal experience: "Several years ago I sat in a meeting in Chicago with a friend. I was there in support because her daughter was sexually assaulted by their neighbor. The judge agreed to a plea which minimized his actions and did not require this predator to register as a sex offender. I sat in this room with these sexual abusers giving testimony as to how hard their life is now."

According to her campaign website biography section, Shanahan McGovern is a mother, business owner, and dedicated community resident who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in economics and communication.
