City of Palos Heights Municipal Grounds and Property Committee met Sept. 24

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

CALL TO ORDER

Chairman Begley called the Municipal Grounds and Property Committee meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. at City Hall. In attendance were Chairman Begley, Alderman Basso, Alderman Clifford, Alderman Brennan, Public Works Director Adam Jasinski and recording secretary Ashley Pala

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Alderman Clifford moved to approve the minutes of the Municipal Ground and Property Committee meeting held on August 27, 2024,seconded by Alderman Begley. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Public Works Director Adam Jasinski presented the following report:

● Motor Vehicle Maintenance Update: No major repairs to report. Most of the work was preventative maintenance.

● Lake Katherine: The parking lot is prepped. A portion of the parking lot was repaved. We are waiting for IDOT to approve the brick pavers. We are looking to see if we can repave Lake Katherine at 20% cost. It has not been approved yet. Discussion ensued regarding a multi-use trail.

● Metra Station: Director Jasinski provided the Committee with handouts that signifies where the work would be completed.

➢ Chairman Begley motioned to approve a proposal with McCahill Painting Company to clean, prep and paint at the Palos Heights Metra Station in the amount of $18,965.00, seconded by Alderman Clifford. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.

● Public Works Garage A/C Unit:

➢ Chairman Begley motioned to approve payment to Thermopol-Mechanical Inc., for the HVAC replacement system in the Public Works garage in the amount of $19,600.00, seconded by Alderman Brennan. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Urban Forestry Management Plan: Public Works will be working on a request for proposals for the Urban Forestry Management Plan. This is something that was done over 15 years ago. This is to update the plans GIS all trees. This will allow recommendations to be made and help with tree trimming and removal.

Professional Services:

➢ Chairman Begley motioned to approve payment for professional engineering services to Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. For the Cal-Sag Trail at Lake Katherine, Phase III project in the amount of $31,380.90, seconded by Alderman Clifford On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.

OLD BUSINESS

Director Jasinski stated that the decorations at the gazebo will begin being displayed this week.

Alderman Begley addressed the landscaping next to Harvest Room. Director Jasinski stated that Harvest Room completed work to upkeep the area by removing the rock and installing grass.

Alderman Begley addressed the light poles by the gazebo as they are in need of repair as they are wobbly.

Alderman Begley addressed the Hometown Hero’s Program. Discussion ensured amongst the

Aldermen. The current banners down Harlem Avenue are tasteful and created by the Public Arts Commission.

NEW BUSINESS

Alderman Clifford mentioned a sign being included at the Lake Katherine parking lot including MWRD and City of Palos Heights. Director Jasinski stated the sign is included in the specifications of the project.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business, Chairman Begley moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Clifford. All in favor. Meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
