Helen Johnston, 85, Remembered for Love of Family, Encouraging Spirit, and Adventurous Soul

Helen Johnston, aged 85, peacefully passed away in her sleep on October 15, 2024, at her residence in Naperville. A devoted wife, beloved mother, and cherished grandmother, Helen's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her son Mitchell Johnston, daughters Carrie Lithgow and Julie Roque, grandchildren Jay Hamilton, Matthew Lithgow, and Ashley Roque, daughter-in-law Karen Johnston, sons-in-law Tom Lithgow and Steve Roque, and her beloved sister Theresa Burke. Helen was born in Chicago on December 28, 1938, to Patrick and Mary Coleman.

Helen was predeceased by her brothers William and Patrick Coleman, sister May Vaughn, and her husband Carter Johnston, whom she married in 1957. Together, they built a home in Dolton and raised their family. Helen instilled in her children the values of faith, family, and friendship. A successful banking professional in Chicago, Helen commuted downtown for 20 years, showcasing an incredible work ethic, multitasking abilities, and unwavering endurance.

Known for her positivity and encouragement, Helen was a beacon of light to those around her. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family, her talent in bringing people together through gatherings and events, and her passion for travel. With her charm and free spirit, Helen embarked on adventures across the United States and Europe, relishing delectable foods, breathtaking views, and most importantly, the company of loved ones.

Helen's legacy lives on through the cherished memories created with family and friends during her travels and gatherings. Her love, warmth, and infectious spirit will be deeply missed, but her memory will be cherished always.
