FOIA Request to City Of Chicago Heights Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Data on October 25, 2024.

South Cook News, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Chicago Heights Finance Department. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and seeks detailed information about sales tax collected from retailers since January 1, 2024.

Specifically, we asked for data showing the amount of sales tax collected from retailers each month compared to projections. We also requested information on the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month. Furthermore, we asked for the names of each retailer and their gross retail sales reported each month.

As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have requested a fee waiver for this information due to our role as a media professional disseminating information to the public.

We await a response from the City Of Chicago Heights Finance Department and will continue to keep our readers informed about local government affairs.
