FOIA Request to City Of Blue Island Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.
We at South Cook News have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) for records pertaining to sales tax collected from retailers in the city of Blue Island since January 1, 2024.
Our request specifically asks for data showing the amount of sales tax collected each month compared to projections, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month, and the names of each retailer along with their reported gross retail sales for each month.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from the City Of Blue Island Finance Department regarding our request.
