A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Hometown in Illinois on October 30, 2024. The request, made by South Cook News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information about residential and commercial building permits.
Specifically, we asked for a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, until the present date. We requested that this list include details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property involved and the contractor's name.
In addition to this, we also requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. We asked for similar details as mentioned above for these active permits.
As members of the media dedicated to reporting on local government affairs, access to public records is crucial for us at South Cook News. It enables us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to our readers. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the City Of Hometown regarding our request.
