A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City Of Country Club Hills regarding building permits on October 30, 2024. The request was sent by South Cook News, a media organization committed to delivering comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our quest for transparency and accountability, we requested specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We sought information in an electronic format concerning all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, till the date of the request. The details requested included the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property, and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we also asked for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. Similar fields were requested for these active permits as well.
As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We look forward to receiving this information from the City Of Country Club Hills as it will aid in our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
