Illinois Senate Minority Leader John Curran, in collaboration with the Woodridge Police Department, is organizing a community event aimed at safely disposing of unused prescription drugs. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will take place at the Woodridge Police Department's Community Room located at 7215 Janes Ave, Woodridge, IL.

Residents are encouraged to bring their unneeded medications to the event. Participants are advised to remove prescription drugs from pill bottles and place them in either a Ziploc or brown paper bag for easier handling during drop-off.

The initiative accepts prescription drugs, pet medications, and vitamins but restricts liquids/creams, needles, and illegal substances. "We hope you will join us to help protect the environment, avoid accidental poisoning and prevent misuse and abuse by safely disposing of unused drugs at this free community event," stated Senator Curran.

Proper disposal of unused drugs is crucial as improper methods such as flushing can lead to contamination of water sources which could harm people and wildlife. This event provides an environmentally safe method for disposal while also reducing potential misuse or abuse within homes.

For further inquiries or information about the event, individuals can contact Senator Curran’s District Office at (630) 914-5733.
