City of Palos Heights Finance Committee met Nov. 12
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
CALL TO ORDER
Chairman McGrogan called the Finance Committee meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. In attendance were Alderman McGovern, Alderman Key and Chairman McGrogan by phone. Also present was Mayor Bob Straz, Treasurer Jim Daemicke, Director of Accounting Jan Colvin, Community Development Coordinator Aimee Ingalls, City Administrator David Strohl and Recording Secretary Morgan Pukula.
APPROVAL OF THOMAS BROWN BILLS
Alderman McGovern moved to approve the Thomas Brown bills in the amount of $6,100.00 seconded by Alderman Key. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL OF HISKES & DILLNER BILLS
Alderman McGovern motioned to approve the Hiskes & Dillner bills in the amount of $12,733.00 seconded by Alderman Key. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MILLER, CANFIELD, PADDOCK & STONE BILLS
Alderman Key motioned to approve an invoice to Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone in the amount of $31,164.10, seconded by Alderman McGovern. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
ANTONIO MARMO TAILOR SHOP GRANT APPLICATION
Alderman Key motioned to approve the tailor shop grant application for $2,592.00, seconded by Alderman McGovern. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
DISCOUNT TOBACCO GRANT APPLICATION
Alderman McGovern motioned to approve the discount tobacco grant application for $2,000.00, seconded by Alderman Key. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
PROPOSED 2024 TAX LEVY ORDINANCE
Director of Accounting, Jan Colvin stated the Police Pension fund contributions and the library’s levy is included and overall has an 8.08% increase.
Chairman McGrogan motioned to approve the proposed 2024 tax levy ordinance, seconded by Alderman McGovern. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
RESOLUTION TO MAXIMIZE CORPORATE RATE
Alderman Key motioned to approve the maximize corporate rate, seconded by Alderman McGovern. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
PROPOSED DRAFT TO THE 2025 BUDGET ORDINANCE
Conversation included the categories that were discussed for the 2025 budget, including contingency funds for unexpected expenditures as well as adjustments for non-union employees.
Mayor Straz stated we budgeted $100,000.00 for our portion of the casino money. This is a projected income that we will receive on an annual basis.
Chairman McGrogan motioned to approve the proposed draft 2025 budget ordinance, seconded by Alderman McGovern. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
The committee will meet in December to discuss salaries and the compensation study.
NEW BUSINESS
The previous minutes from October 8th, 2024 are being revised. The approval of the minutes will be included in the December committee meeting.

There being no further business, Chairman McGrogan made a motion to adjourn,seconded by Alderman Key. All in favor.
