City of Markham City Council met Nov. 20

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor, Roger Agpawa called the Special Council Meeting of the Markham City Council to order at 10:13a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Prayer led by Ald. McDowell. Roll Call was taken by City Clerk, Leslie Trimuel.

ALSO PRESENT:  Finance Director - Christina McClerklin 

AUTHORIZATION OF CLAIMS 

Motion by Ald. Hampton-Houser, seconded by Ald. Bertrand Jr., to adopt the Authorization of Claims and Accounts Bill list, totaling $2,669,741.30 with manual checks of $163,730.15for a grand total of $2,833,471.45

GENERAL BUSINESS 

WAIVE 48 HOUR READING OF ORDINANCE AMENDING 24-0-2392 

Motion by Ald. Barron, seconded by Ald. McDowell to waive Amended Ordinance 24-0-2392 

An Ordinance Amending Ordinance 24-0-2392 providing for the Year 2024 Residential Property Tax Rebate Program for Homeowners of the City of Markham (Tax Reimbursement)

OPEN FLOOR TO FINANCE DIRECTOR 

Motion by Ald. Hampton-Houser, seconded by Ald. Bertrand Jr., to open the floor to the Finance Director, Christina McClerklin

FINANCE DIRECTOR - CHRISTINA MCCLERKLIN 

It is time for our Risk Renewal, which is Liability Insurance for the city. The current liability insurance situation with the current carrier and the benefits of joining the Illinois Municipal League's Risk Management Association (IML) was presented. IML offer a self-insured pool with significant cost savings and better coverage terms compared to the current carrier. The benefits of joining IML include lower premiums and reduced deductibles. For the record no current open claims will be carried over. This would start with any new claims.

APPROVAL INSURANCE RENEWAL 

Approval of FY 24-25 Risk Insurance Renewal payment of $1,359716.00 for 13 months. 

Motion by Ald. Bertrand Jr., seconded by Ald. McDowell to approve FY 25-25 Risk Insurance Renewal, not to exceed $1.4 million for 13 months by the Treasurer and the Mayor.
