Village of East Hazel Crest Board of Trustees met Dec. 11

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Officials: Mayor Thomas A. Brown, Administrator Lazuka and Clerk Minnis 

Roll Call: Trustees Forte, Kearns, Johnson, Ewan, and Wideman were present;  Ortiz was absent. 

Also present were: PW Dir. B. King, PD Chief R. Janich, FD Grant Mills, Stan Sokolowski, Jo Ann Murry, the Jurez Family & J. O'Brien. 

Invocation & Pledge. After a moment of silent prayer, Mayor Brown lead the assembly in the Pledge to the Flag of the United States of America. 

Minutes: Trustees Kearns and Forte made the motions to approve the minutes of the 11/13//24 regular meeting. All trustees present were in favor. Tr. Ortiz was Absent. Mtn. carried. Time: 7:05 pm 

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC; 

Trustees Wideman and Kearns made the motions to OPEN this segment of the meeting to the public. All trustees present were in favor. Tr. Ortiz was absent. Motions carried. 

M. Fernandez complained that the CN Railroad hasn't been picking up trash along the tracks; and the Minutes of the Meetings weren't approved. Jo Ann Murry complained that dog 'walkers' haven't been 'picking up' after their animals. 

NEWSLETTERS will be coming 'out' soon. 2025 Vehicle tags went on SALE December 1st. 

CLOSE TO PUBLIC: There being no other input, Trustees Wideman and Ewan made the motions to CLOSE this segment of the meeting to the public. Motions carried. Time: 7:10 pm. 

REPORTS OF VILLAGE OFFICIALS: 

Mayor: 

1) Mayor Brown presented the 2024 LEVY ORDINANCE. Trustees Ewan and Wideman made the motions to approve the 2024 Levy Ordinance. Roll Call: all trustees present voted aye. Mtn. carried. 

2) Trustees Kearns and Johnson made the motions to authorize the signing of the ECOM AUTO AID AGREEMENT. 

3) Chief Janich stepped forward and introduced Keith Jarosz' father who proceeded with 'pinning' Keith with his 'Sergeant's' badge of promotion to Sergeant in the EHCPD. Congratulations Keith.

Reports Of Village Officials, continued: 

Clerk: Clerk Minnis will be retiring at the end of 2024. 

Administrator: 

1). Adm. Lazuka said the Village will be replacing one the boilers at the Village Hall.at a cost of $39,775.00. Trustees Wideman and Kearns made the motions to approve the purchase. Roll Call; all trustees present voted aye. Motions carried. 

2. Brief discussion on METRA'S request to have a DONUT SHOP at the EHC station. Trustees Johnson and Wideman made the motions to approve the operation of a DONUT SHOP at the stations from 6 AM to 6:30 PM. 

3) Date for Trustees and Department Supervisors to participate in the Zoning Round Table to discuss the rent for the Donut Shop will be on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 at 1 pm. 

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES: 

Streets: Tr. Forte complained about dogs walking on private property (pooping on private property). 

Finance/License: Trustees Johnson and Kearns made the motions to approve payment of bills on two (2) Claims sheets dated 12/2/24 in the amount of $110,900.71 and on 12/1/24 in the amount of $134,901.27. Roll Call: All trustees present voted aye. Motions carried. 

Signs. Tr. Kearns inquired about a sign for the CASINO on I-80/294. No input. 

Health/Safety/Personnel - no report\ 

Water/Sewer: Tr. Wideman had nothing to report. 

Police/ Fire: In the absence of Tr. Ortiz, PD Chief Janich read the Nov.2024 PD of activities.

ADJOURN: There being no other business to come before the Board, Trustees Ewan and Wideman made the motions to adjourn. All trustees present were in favor. Motions carried. Time: 7:45 pm.
