A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the West Harvey-Dixmoor Public School District 147 on January 13, 2025. The request, sent by South Cook News, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks information regarding the number of non-U.S. citizens currently enrolled in the school district.
The FOIA request specifically asks for data about "migrants" - referring to illegal aliens or non-U.S. citizens - who are currently part of the student body in the district's schools. As members of a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at South Cook News believe that access to such records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
We have also requested a fee waiver for this information as part of our role as media professionals disseminating vital information to the public.

The report also revealed that the average student-to-administrative ratio is 141:1 and the average student-to-teacher ratio is 17:1.
