On January 13, 2025, we at South Cook News sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Reavis Township High School District 220 in Illinois. The request was aimed at gathering data about the number of non-U.S. citizens, referred to as "migrants" in the request, currently enrolled in the school district.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
