On January 13, 2025, we at South Cook News sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Palos Community Consolidated School District 118. The request sought information regarding the number of non-U.S. citizens currently enrolled in the school district.
As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to such public records is essential for our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In the request, we specified our preference for receiving this information in an electronic format and cited our eligibility for a fee waiver as media professionals.
