A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Chicago Heights School District 170 regarding copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contain specific keywords. The request was made on January 28, 2025.

The request was submitted by South Cook News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of their commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, they requested access to these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

The records requested specifically include any emails or memos containing the keywords “Lucy Calkins” and “Units of Study.” These terms could potentially refer to educational materials or programs used within the school district.

South Cook News has asked for these documents in electronic format and believes they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public.
