Homewood - Alfred Knoll, affectionately known as Fred, passed away at the age of 89 in Homewood. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirlene Knoll and the loving father of Alfred P. Knoll, Daniel J. (Laurie) Knoll, Maria (Jeff) Benner, Joseph Knoll, and the late John Michael Knoll. Fred was cherished by his grandchildren Sarita, Anna, Michael, Grace, David, Samantha Grace, Jennifer, and John 'Jack', as well as his great-grandchildren Joe, Sam, Eddie, Nolan, Evie, Noah, and Caleb. He was the dear brother of the late J. Theodore, the late Phillip, and Gregory (Cyndie) Knoll, and a beloved uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend to many.

Fred, a veteran of the United States Army, was a proud graduate of Mt. Carmel Catholic High School and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he met and married his wife, Shirlene. Returning to the south suburbs of Chicago, Fred co-established Knoll Bros. (Construction) with his brother Ted. He and Shirlene were actively involved parishioners at both St. Joseph and St. Anne Catholic Churches, participating in numerous philanthropic efforts such as the Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, and various prayer groups.

Known for his sense of humor, Fred enjoyed sharing funny stories and winning at cards, always reminding his children to think about the next person and to "make it nice." He was skilled at carpentry and construction, evident in the large indoor wooden crèche he built for the Nativity Scene at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Fred valued hard work, kindness, and making a positive impact within the community.

A visitation will be held at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home on Monday, February 10th from 3-7 pm, with a Rosary on Tuesday, February 11th at 10 am followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at St. Anne Catholic Church in Hazel Crest at 10:30 am. Interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood. In lieu of flowers, donations to local food pantries or children's charities are welcome.
