Illinois Senate Republican Leader John Curran has voiced concerns regarding Governor Pritzker's latest budget proposal. In response to the 2025 Budget and State of the State Address, Curran expressed his disappointment over what he sees as an increase in government spending without sufficient controls.

Curran highlighted that "Gov. Pritzker has once again increased it, introducing a record-breaking $55.4 billion taxpayer-funded budget." He emphasized that this plan represents a significant rise in state spending, noting it has grown by "an astonishing 37 percent since he took office."

The Republican leader criticized the governor's approach, stating, "Rather than ensuring transparency, it relies on the same gimmicks and job-killing taxes that hurt Illinois’ growth." Despite these challenges, Curran assured constituents of his commitment to advocating for accountability and responsible fiscal management during this year's budget discussions.

He reiterated his stance: "We remain committed to standing up for taxpayers by demanding accountability and responsible spending to protect vital services throughout this year’s budget process."
