Irene C. Nietfeldt, Beloved Teacher and Kind Bank Teller, Passes Away at 94

Homewood, Illinois - Irene Clara Nietfeldt, 94, peacefully passed away on February 28, 2025. Born on December 13, 1930, in Addison, Illinois, to Albert and Anna Berlin, Irene was the devoted wife of the late Frederick (Fritz) Nietfeldt, with whom she shared 64 years of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

As a loving mother, Irene is survived by Janet (John) Boehm, JoAnn (Mark) Hess, Jerri (William) Schell, Jacqueline (Karl) Newman, and the late James (Stacy) Nietfeldt. She was a proud grandmother to Katelyn, Krista, Karyn, Kimberley, Daniel, Jill, Claire, Bradley, Kurtis, Eric, Lisa, Tayler, Evan, Andrew, Emma, and Hannah, and adored great-grandmother to 17 great-grandchildren.

Irene's dedication to education led her to become the inaugural kindergarten teacher at St. John’s Lutheran School in Country Club Hills. She taught at Lutheran schools for many years, shaping the lives of countless children with her passion and care. Later in her career, Irene transitioned to working as a bank teller at the Bank of Homewood, serving the community with kindness and dedication until her retirement in 1990.

A faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Country Club Hills for 70 years, Irene's commitment to her faith and service to others shone brightly. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.

A visitation to celebrate Irene's life will be held on Sunday, March 9, from 2-6 PM at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 10, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Country Club Hills, beginning at 11:00 AM, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Irene will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her, as they remember her warmth, generosity, and spirit of love. May she rest in peace.
