James R. Osmolski, 76, Remembered in Obituary

James R. Osmolski, a veteran who served in the US Marines, US Army, and US Army Reserves, passed away at the age of 76. He was the devoted husband of Jan M. Osmolski for 53 years. Born in Chicago, he attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church before moving to the southwest suburbs during his middle school years. He completed his education at Tinley Park High School.

After high school, James enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, undergoing basic training at Camp Pendleton in California. He served in Okinawa, Japan, during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service led him to enlist in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves, serving for a total of 32 years.

James also pursued a passion for scientific research, spending time conducting animal research at Fort Detrick, Maryland, and later working as a lab researcher in the Infectious Diseases Department at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. His contributions to the field were highly regarded, and he was recognized by colleagues and medical professionals.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Osmolski, his children Gail Emer, Victoria Lindamood, Jonathan (Sarah) Osmolski, and Steven Osmolski, along with grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-8 p.m. The funeral will be on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, followed by a Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 9:45 a.m. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Army at 12:00 p.m.
