Joan N. Kikoen, 92, Remembered for Kindness and Musical Talents

Joan Newman Kikoen, known as “Joanie Babes,” passed away on March 10, 2025, at the age of 92. She was a talented pianist, singer, and crocheter, with a remarkable career in the construction industry and at the University of Chicago. Joan was deeply involved with the arts, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Heights Drama Group.

Married to Eugene Kikoen for 56 years, Joan is survived by her children Steven, David, Chana Susan, and James, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her radiant smile, beauty, and charismatic personality endeared her to everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression of kindness and care.

Visitation and service will be held on March 17 at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood, IL, with interment being private. Donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Joan’s legacy of love and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
