Gary Smith, age 89, of Tinley Park, IL, passed away, leaving a legacy of love, service, and strength. Known for his dutiful service in South Korea and his 36-year career as a Chicago police officer, Gary touched the lives of many with his unwavering commitment to protecting and serving his community.

Survived by his beloved wife, Judith, “Mabel” Stater Smith, of 63 years, Gary was a cherished father to four children and a devoted grandfather and great grandfather, finding immense joy in his family. His profound love and pride for his family were evident in every moment shared with them.

Gary will be honored in a private ceremony with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project are welcomed.

May Gary Smith rest in peace, his memory forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
