James Hlebek, 78, of Dyer, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, April 29, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his son Jeffrey (Dawn Zebrauskas), daughter Jennifer Ramirez, three grandchildren Jordan (Tyler) Dykes, Ricky Ramirez, Delaney Hlebek, and one great-grandson, Kian Dykes. Also mourning his loss are his brother John (Pat) Hlebek and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hlebek was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Hlebek, and parents John and Victoria.

Funeral services for James will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025, starting with 9:30 a.m. closing prayers at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, proceeding to (All Souls Parish) St. Ann Catholic Church, 3010 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Mark Kalema. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

A proud Vietnam veteran, James served his country in the Army and was an active member of the local Vietnam Veterans group, cherishing the camaraderie it provided. As a lift truck mechanic at Sherwin Williams, he found joy in spending time with his family and engaging in car repairs and home improvement projects. James often joked that he could fix anything except a broken heart. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vietnam Veterans of America or any other Veteran organization would be appreciated.
