Born in Chicago, Illinois on April 16, 1943, to parents of Irish descent, Patrick Joseph Walsh and Mary Jane Walsh (nee Duignan), John's pride in his roots was a cornerstone of his identity.
A standout athlete, John played football for Brother Rice High School and earned a full scholarship to Michigan State University, where he excelled both on field and academically as the President of the Varsity Club. After serving in the Marine Corps, he pursued an MBA at Northern Illinois University and built a successful career highlighted by his tenure as president of two family-owned businesses.
John's adventurous spirit extended beyond his professional life, participating in multiple marathons, conquering Mount Massive in the Rocky Mountains, and walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. His passion for travel took him to over 100 countries, reflecting his zest for life and exploration.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Beth Walsh; children Elizabeth Walsh Muldoon, Patrick Walsh, and Margaret Schultz; and grandchildren who will remember him for his outgoing nature, warm smile, and ability to connect with everyone.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Western Springs, with a funeral Mass to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Misericordia are welcomed in John's honor.
John's legacy of love, exploration, and inspiration to others will forever impact those who had the privilege of knowing him.
