Kenneth "Ken" Walter Herkert, 96, of Glenwood, passed away on June 11, 2025. Born in Milwaukee WI, on October 10, 1928, raised in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, he passed away at the University of Chicago Medical Center, just blocks away from his childhood home.

Ken is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Arlene, and his children: Kimberly Parra, Laura Shumock, Brian Herkert, and Pamela Van Niel. He was a proud and loving "Papa" to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Ken attended Mount Carmel High School, served during the Korean War, and obtained a degree from DePaul University through the GI Bill.

Known for his love of Chicago, art fairs, and outdoor activities, Ken enjoyed family trips, especially camping in Wisconsin and Tennessee. His cottage in Michigan holds cherished memories for loved ones. He will be deeply missed for his humility and strong character.

Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, from 9-11:15 a.m. at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home in Homewood, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John Neumann.
