Richard graduated from T.F. South High School in Lansing, IL, and went on to pursue further education at DeVry Institute of Technology and Purdue University Northwest, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Over his distinguished career, Richard dedicated 30+ years to Arcelor Mittal Steel/LTV Steel as an electrical Maintenance Technician, partnering with USW Local 1011.
Known for his technical acumen, Richard held an Advanced Amateur (Ham) Radio License, fostering global connections with other licensed operators. In retirement, he found joy in woodworking projects and looking after his feline companion, Zunie.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation on Saturday, July 26, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home in Lansing, IL, with the funeral service following in the chapel at 11:30 AM. Richard will be laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Richard’s honor can be made to United Way of Northwest Indiana or Humane Indiana to aid homeless and injured animals.
Richard Dobda will be remembered for his technical expertise, community spirit, and dedication to his craft and loved ones.
