James E. Cosby | Smits Deyoung-Vroegh Chapel - South Holland

James E. Cosby, known to friends and family as "Brother," passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Monday, August 18, 2025, in South Holland, Illinois. Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, he was a hardworking individual who was admired for his dedication and loyalty, especially during his lengthy career at CSX Railroad. James, a member of the Army National Guard, found a passion for golf in his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Vernina (Bobbie) Cosby, and family members, including sister Mamie Watts and brother Curtis Cosby. His passing is mourned by a large extended family and many cherished friends in the community.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home in South Holland, Illinois. The Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Christ Our Savior/St. Jude the Apostle Church, with entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City.
