Fred Schumacher, a lifelong Blue Island, Illinois resident, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at the age of 93. He was born on January 1, 1932, and his life was characterized by hard work, creativity, and love for his family, friends, and career.

In 1968, Fred married Margaret (née Bowers), creating a lasting and special partnership. He dedicated his career to Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 73, serving as a tradesman and later an instructor at Washburne Trade School. Fred's teachings impacted countless students, and he co-authored Sheet Metal Machine Processes in 1975, leaving a lasting legacy in his field.

A gifted stained glass artist, Fred crafted beautiful home accents showcasing his artistry and attention to detail. He also enjoyed golfing and traveling, particularly to Michigan and Wisconsin with Margaret, reveling in nature, music, and fruit-picking.

As a devoted stepfather to John LaCasha, Fred was a loving presence in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss his wisdom and humor dearly.

Visitation for Fred will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Krueger Funeral Home in Blue Island, with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip. Fred's dedication, creativity, and love will be remembered by his family, students, and those touched by his artistry.
