Franciscan Health's Fresh Start Market will continue to provide food assistance to local families for the next three months following a $15,000 donation from Old National Bank. The market, which serves about 200 people each month, is part of Franciscan Health’s broader Food Insecurity Program aimed at addressing hunger in Northwest Indiana.
Old National Bank employees have previously volunteered at the program’s Mobile Markets, distributing food boxes during holiday periods. Their involvement inspired further support for the initiative. Since 2021, Old National Bank has contributed over $40,000 to Franciscan Health’s efforts against food insecurity.
"Old National Bank's support of Franciscan Health's Food Insecurity Program is about more than just a donation, it's about making sure local families have access to nutritious meals and the resources they need to thrive," said Monica Rubio, Northwest Indiana Market President and Senior Vice President of Community Lending Market Executive at Old National Bank. "By helping sustain the Fresh Start Market, we're investing in the well-being of our neighbors and building a stronger, healthier Northwest Indiana for everyone."
The Food Insecurity Program was launched by the Franciscan Health Foundation in partnership with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana in 2021. It consists of three phases: Mobile Markets (Phase I), Fresh Start Markets located in Hammond and Crown Point (Phase II), and the Food Rx Program (Phase III). The Fresh Start Markets allow individuals to shop for healthy foods free of charge while also offering education on nutrition and recipes. The Food Rx Program provides specific foods tailored to individual health needs based on screenings and referrals.
"We are deeply grateful for Old National Bank's continued trust and partnership," said MinDee Richard, Director of Development at Franciscan Health Foundation. "Together, we remain committed to improving the quality of life in our community by ensuring access to healthy, high-quality food for those who need it most."
