Franciscan Health Prenatal Assistance Program’s Diaper Pantry has received a $10,000 donation from CAPTRUST’s Chesterton office. The contribution is part of the CAPTRUST Community Foundation program, which encourages employees to support children in their local communities through grants and volunteer activities.

Earlier this year, the Chesterton CAPTRUST team selected the Franciscan Health Prenatal Assistance Program as the recipient of its annual Giving Day donation. The program helps expectant families and those with children under one year old by offering services such as the Diaper Pantry, which provides diapers and wipes at no cost to eligible families.

The National Diaper Bank Network reports that nearly half of families face difficulties affording diapers, which can cost close to $1,000 per year. Additionally, about a quarter of families experiencing diaper insecurity have missed work or school due to not having enough diapers for childcare needs. Lack of adequate diaper supplies can also lead to health issues like rashes and infections among infants.

“This felt like an area where our CAPTRUST Community Foundation could make an impact in our local community,” said CAPTRUST Vice President Kelly Shikany. “…We’re honored to support the Franciscan Health Prenatal Assistance Program.”

Debbie Tatum, director of development for the Franciscan Health Foundation, said, “The CAPTRUST donation will have an immediate positive impact on the health and well-being of vulnerable families in the area. We are so grateful to Kelly and the CAPTRUST team for recognizing the importance of supporting vulnerable local families.”

The CAPTRUST Community Foundation supports 80 nonprofits nationwide during its Annual Giving Day with a total charitable giving impact reaching $800,000.

Families interested in assistance from the Diaper Pantry can call 1-877-PRE-NATL (1-877-773-6285) for eligibility information and appointments. Donations can be made online by selecting “Prenatal Assistance Program – Northern Indiana” or by calling 219-661-3401.
