Glenwood Board of Trustees approves staffing grant

The village of Glenwood Board of Trustees met Jan. 3 to approve a staffing grant.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR BOARD MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF GLENWOOD, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS HELD AT THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 3, 2017

The January 3, 2017 Regular Board Meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by Village President Ronald J. Gardiner who led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

1) Village President Gardiner asked for a Moment of Silence for resident Joseph (Joe) Howard. Services were held January 3, 2017.

2) Village President Gardiner announced that the Crazy Hog Restaurant (Glenwood Plaza) is now open for business.

Chief Cook explained the Police Overtime.

Acceptance of STAFFING FOR ADECUATE FIRE AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE (SAFER)) Grant Administered by FEMA and authorization to have the Fire & Police Commission process the next candidate.

TrusteeStyles: Moved: Second by Trustee Hopkins to accept the Motion as presented.

Discussion: Some of the discussion included the following: Trustee Washington: asked about the software which was purchased for the Building Department, asked how the new person would assist the inspectional process and asked if vote can be "yes" on acceptance of the Grant and wait on the hiring; Trustee Slaughter: asked will the person be paid, asked what happens if the person remains after the two-year period; Trustee Styles: stated that he doesn't see the issue since the Village will be getting a full time firefighter at no cost to the Village; Trustee Winston: asked if the training will paid for through the Grant; Chief Welsh: stated that the Grant provides for a complete salary and benefit package, stated the performance period for the Grant is February, 2017 through February, 2019, stated that the addition of this individual will enhance both the provision of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services but will also allow for an increase in duty specific work assignments of the Fire/Building inspectors, stated that approval would authorize the Fire and Police Commission to process the next candidate from the eligibility list for hire.
