The Village of Park Forest Public Works Department has launched its second annual Name the Plow contest, inviting residents to submit creative names for one of the village’s snowplows. The submission period runs from October 27 through November 7.
After submissions close, the Public Works crew will review all entries and select the top ten finalists by November 10. Community members will then have the opportunity to vote on their favorite names between November 11 and November 25. The winning name is scheduled to be announced during the week of December 1.
Public Works Director Roderick Ysaguirre described the contest as part of ongoing efforts to engage with residents. “We wanted to create something that helps residents engage with Public Works and the services we provide,” Ysaguirre said. “It’s a fun way for the community to get involved.”
The inaugural Name the Plow contest took place in 2024, with “Snowbegone Kenobi” selected as last year’s winner. That entry was submitted by Matthew Albano and Hayden Chiappetta after receiving the most votes from local residents, and the name was added to one of Park Forest’s snowplows.
Ysaguirre confirmed that this year’s process would follow a similar format: residents submit names, staff select finalists, and community voting determines which name will appear on a village snowplow.
The person who submits this year’s winning name will receive public recognition and a photo opportunity with the named vehicle.
