Lansing FD responds to 165 fires in 2016

Lansing Fire Department responded to 489 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Lansing included 165 fires - 120 structure fires, 25 vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $50,500,858 in fire loss - or about $306,066 per fire.

The department also received 324 false calls, including one malicious call and 323 other false calls.

14 fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Lansing Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 26 active employees and 19 retired or inactive employees, was $1,062,339 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,438 for every fire in 2016.
