Lemont FPD responds to 69 fires in 2016

Lemont Fire Protection District responded to 625 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Lemont included 69 fires - 25 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 28 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $50,226,500 in fire loss - or about $727,920 per fire.

The department also received 556 false calls, including six malicious calls and 550 other false calls.

Two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and eight were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Lemont FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 54 active employees and 15 retired or inactive employees, was $151,183 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,191 for every fire in 2016.
