Analysis: Blue Island pays $5.44 for every $1 pensioners contribute to Blue Island Firefighters Pension Fund

Taxpayers contributed 84.5 percent of the $978,149 the Blue Island Firefighters Pension Fund brought in last year, or $5.44 for every $1 from pension members, according to a South Cook News analysis of the latest data reported to the Illinois Department of Insurance Pension Division.

In all, Blue Island contributed $826,486 to the fund, which saw a $461,453 increase in revenue over 2015. Members contributed $151,663, or 15.5 percent, in 2016.
