Glenwood FD responds to 68 fires in 2017

Glenwood Fire Department responded to 253 calls in 2017 - 29.1 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Glenwood included 68 fires - 41 structure fires, 14 vehicle fires and 13 other fires.

In all, the department saw $314,655 in fire loss - or about $4,627 per fire.

The department also received 185 false calls, including three malicious calls and 182 other false calls.

The Glenwood Firefighters Pension Fund, which has three active employees and five retired or inactive employees, was $129,366 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,270 for every fire in 2016.
