Hazelcrest Dept of Fire Rescue responded to 168 calls in 2017 - 45.1 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Hazelcrest included 54 fires - 37 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $188,652 in fire loss - or about $3,494 per fire.

The department also received 114 false calls, including one malicious call and 113 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.
