South Chicago Heights FD responds to 127 fires in 2017

South Chicago Heights Fire Department responded to 331 calls in 2017 - 10.1 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in South Chicago Heights included 127 fires - 120 structure fires, one vehicle fire and six other fires.

In all, the department saw $375,000 in fire loss - or about $2,953 per fire.

The department also received 204 false calls, including one malicious call and 203 other false calls.

The South Chicago Heights Firefighters Pension Fund, which has active employee and one retired or inactive employee, was $23,939 in debt as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $143 for every fire in 2016.
