North Palos School District 117 students suspended 151 times in a single school year

North Palos School District 117 reported 151 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 151 students during the year. That equates to 4.5 percent of the 3,329 students enrolled.

Of the 85 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 77 incidents. There were five incidents of violence without physical injury. For 81 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 66 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 31 incidents. There were 27 incidents of unspecified reasons. For 28 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
