The price of local government in 2017: City of Chicago Heights

The City of Chicago Heights budget was $77.34 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $8,848 per household.

That's an increase of 6.3 percent from 2016, when the city spent $72.74 million, or $8,322 per household.

Chicago Heights has 8,741 households and a population of 30,276.

Since 2001, the City of Chicago Heights budget has grown by 30.2 percent, from $59.40 million. The city population has fallen 7.6 percent over the same period, from 32,776.

Salaries accounted for 24.9 percent of city spending in 2017. Chicago Heights property taxpayers paid $19.28 million for 214 full-time employees and 29 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 353 full-time employees and 23 part-time employees, and spent $21.61 million.
