The price of local government in 2017: City of Harvey

The City of Harvey budget was $56.38 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $6,730 per household.

That's a decrease of 3.2 percent from 2016, when the city spent $58.24 million, or $6,952 per household.

Harvey has 8,377 households and a population of 25,282.

Since 2001, the City of Harvey budget has grown by 48 percent, from $38.10 million. The city population has fallen 15.7 percent over the same period, from 30,000.

Salaries accounted for 21 percent of city spending in 2017. Harvey property taxpayers paid $11.86 million for 197 full-time employees and 38 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 242 full-time employees and 36 part-time employees, and spent $11.32 million.
