Illinois State Senate District 41 issued the following announcement on April 20.
On May 4th, State Senator John Curran (R-Downers Grove) and Representative Jim Durkin will be hosting a Recycling Fair in Burr Ridge.
The goal is to help residents dispose of items that shouldn’t be going to landfills, including certain electronics and prescription drugs. The event will also feature free document shredding to dispose of sensitive information, and Habitat for Humanirty will be on hand to accept donations of household appliances and materials that are in good condition.
Items accepted for recycling include:
Electronics, prescription drugs (in clear resealable bags), bikes, car racks, flags, books, gently used clothing & household items, Brita and PUR water filters, broken crayons, gently used building materials, keys, plastic bread tags, musical instruments, records, cd’s, dvd’s, and used markers.
Items not accepted for recycling:
CRT TV’s or Computer Monitors (aka “Tube TV’s/Monitors”), Hazmat Items, Hot Water Heaters, SCUBA Tanks, Tires, Weapons, Alcohol, Antifreeze, Batteries, Black Powder, Chemicals (unsealed), Fluorescent Bulbs, Fireworks, Gasoline, Kerosene, Lamp Oil, Matches, Mineral Spirits, Non-Flammable Gas (i.e. helium), Oil Stains, Vegetable Oil (used), Vehicle Oil, Aerosol- used (i.e. Hairspray), Antibacterial Soap, Cleaning Supplies (unsealed), Industrial Glues or Paints, Lubricants, Mace/Pepper Spray, Nail Polish Remover, Paint (house), Propane Tanks, Spray Paint
Habitat for Humanity will be specifically looking for donations of:
Appliances: Less than 10 years old - good working condition
Kitchen Cabinets: Complete Sets
Doors: Solid Interior and Exterior
Electrical: Outlets, Switches, Supplies
Flooring: Wood & Tile - 3 Box minimum, Carpet - New, 100 sq. ft. minimum
Hardware: Miscellaneous Hinges, Knobs, Nails, Nuts, Bolts, etc.
HVAC: Furnaces, AC units, Fireplaces, Window Air-Conditioners: all in working order
Lighting: Fixtures, Lamps, Ceiling Fans
Millwork/Lumber: 6 Foot Minimum - No nails
Plumbing: Vanity and Kitchen Sinks, Toilets, Fixtures, Neutral Colors
Tools: manual and power: Must be in working order
Windows: Vinyl Exterior, Double-Paned, complete, no broken glass
