Former state university employee Damiani paid in $35K to pension fund, could collect $875K in retirement

Former state university employee Caryl Damiani, who retired in October 2018, saved $35,055 toward a pension over 16 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Damiani would collect as much as $875,197, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Cook News.

The projection assumes Damiani received $18,396 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Damiani will have already received $37,344 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
